Champat Rai, the general secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra (SKJTK) Trust of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, has tendered his resignation, Trust treasurer Govind Dev Giri stated.

Giri further stated that Anil Mishra, a member of the Trust, has also tendered his resignation.

The resignations come against the backdrop of alleged embezzlement of donations received at the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

The treasurer expounded that the Ram Temple Trust will take a decision on the resignations of Rai and Mishra in its next meeting.

The Trust said that they are shocked, hurt and deeply saddened by the recent developments and are duty-bound to ensure that a fair inquiry is conducted and the faith of devotees is restored.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged at the instance of Krishna Mohan, a member of the SKJTK Trust, following recommendations made in the preliminary report of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government to probe the allegations.

Eight persons named in an FIR over the alleged embezzlement of donations received at the Temple in Ayodhya have been arrested, senior officials said on Friday. The officials added on that a court in Ayodhya has granted police custody of all eight accused till June 29, during which investigators will continue questioning them.
